Job description

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is a powerful analytical technique that continues to be challenging when dealing with small samples given its low sensitivity.  To address this challenge, you will work on the development of miniaturized magnetic resonance systems for hyperpolarization as part of a DFG project. You will design and build a platform that is compatible with biological samples and NMR spectroscopy/imaging. The system will work with both high field (11.7 T) and low field (1.4 T, 1.9 T) NMR systems. You will investigate the influence of the NMR signal amplification methodology on biological samples, identify a biologically-compatible methodology, and implement this methodology in an NMR platform capable of biological sample maintenance.

Personal qualification

Applications of highly motivated and excellent candidates with a University degree (Diploma (Uni) / M.Sc.) in Physics, Engineering, or related subjects with experience in Microsystems Technology are welcome.  Experience in glass-based microfluidic system design and fabrication, clean room work, and COMSOL for EM simulation is required.  Candidates with experience with NMR/MRI, cell culture, and/or hydrogen gas handling will be given priority.


Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
