Job description

You will be involved in the technical upgrade and commissioning of the multi-crystal X-ray emission spectrometer (XES) operated at the ACT station of the CAT-ACT wiggler beamline at the KIT Light Source, KARA storage ring, KIT Campus North. You will support the INE research group “High resolution X-ray emission spectroscopy” and our cooperation partners in performing experiments at the INE operated experimental stations at KARA, dedicated and optimized for the analysis of radionuclide bearing materials. Your personal research will focus on structural and electronic properties of highly radioactive materials like spent nuclear fuel employing XAS and XES techniques. This will include the application of spatial resolution and in situ setups, e.g., to study the effect of the electrochemical potential on actinide speciation. Furthermore, you will instruct internship and master students to perform XAS/XES or inelastic X-ray scattering experiments to study actinide compounds.

Personal qualification

You have a university degree in chemistry, physics, material science or related (university diploma / master degree) with a completed PhD. You have experience in the application of X-ray absorption spectroscopy techniques and related data treatment. Experience with X-ray emission spectroscopy is an advantage. Personally, you convince with strong communication skills, organizational skills, ability to work in a team and ability for interdisciplinary cooperation.

Salary

Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
