Vacancy No. 508/2022
chemist / geochemist scientist with PhD degree (f/m/d)
Job description
You will be responsible to develop new thermodynamic data and model parameters to describe the chemical behavior of selected radionuclides (mainly actinides) in aqueous solutions in the context of safety research for nuclear waste disposal. The work will contribute to significantly increasing the available thermodynamic database for radionuclides in salt brine solutions. Based on existing literature data and experimental data derived at KIT-INE you will contribute to develop new chemical models and derive complete and consistent thermodynamic data. You will use geochemical modeling codes to perform calculations with the data and compare to experimental findings in order to validate data selection. You will implement the thermodynamic data into the German thermodynamic database THEREDA and prepare related documentation. Your responsibilities will also include the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific publications and the dissemination at national and international scientific conferences.
Personal qualification
You have a university degree in chemistry or geosciences (university diploma / master degree) with a completed PhD. You have knowledge on the chemical behavior of metal cations in aquatic systems especially regarding complexation reactions with inorganic ligands, and experience regarding chemical thermodynamics and geochemical modeling. Experience with thermodynamic databases and especially the determination of ion-interaction parameters within the Pitzer approach is an advantage. Experience regarding the thermodynamic description of radionuclides in high ionic strength systems is likewise an advantage. Personally, you convince by being highly motivated, having strong communication skills and a team oriented working approach. Good English language skills are mandatory.
