02-2019-IMT PhD Position: Correlation of in-situ lab based X-ray imaging and NMR/MRI microscopy for the understanding of catalytic processes
The aim of this PhD work is to develop and implement a concept that allows to correlate data from non-destructive x-ray imaging (e.g. single shot imaging) and spin resonant methods (NMR / MRI) in order to provide quasi-in-situ unambiguous statements on the dependence of catalytic reaction processes (example oxidation of dihydropyridine to pyridine) on morphology and structure on the microscale. These data are used to create the conditions to improve catalytic layers in their structure and morphology, so that the catalytic process is more efficient and productive. The concept must allow for extensibility to other issues (e.g., nanoscale morphology study).
- University degree (Diploma (UNI) / Master) in physics, alternatively electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, micro technology or chemical engineering
- Basic physical knowledge in imaging and spectroscopic characterization methods based on X-ray and nuclear spin
- Analytical skills to solve physical and technical issues
- Interest in computer science and chemical process engineering
- Good English knowledge
