Vacancy No. 1012/2021
Academic Employee/PhD Student (f/m/d) (75%)
Promotional topic: Preparation, characterization and systematic testing of heterogeneous catalysts for emission control
The advertised PhD position focuses on the development and comprehensive testing of noble metal-based aftertreatment catalysts for emission control under various reaction conditions. Conventional and novel catalyst preparation methods will be used, which will be developed together with other project partners. In a next step, the powder catalyst obtained will be systematically characterized and tested on advanced catalyst test setups at the Karlsruhe Exhaust Gas Center (https://www.itcp.kit.edu/abgaszentrum/index.php).
The PhD project is carried out in the framework of the Collaborative Research Center CRC1441 "TrackAct" ("Tracking the Active Site in Heterogeneous Catalysis", http://www.trackact.kit.edu) with Prof. Jan-Dierk Grunwaldt as designated spokesperson of the DFG, and is performed at the Institute of Chemical Technology and Polymer Chemistry in the group of Dr. Maria Casapu. In this CRC, more than 40 scientists - mainly at KIT - collaborate and use both experimental and theoretical approaches to understand supported noble metal catalysts for emission control from atomic scale to application in combustion engines.
- Synthesis, testing and characterization of exhaust aftertreatment catalysts.
- Extensive data evaluation, preparation of reports and publications.
- Catalyst characterization using state-of-the-art spectroscopic methods.
- Supervision of bachelor and master students.
You should have a very good Master's degree in chemistry or chemical engineering. Basic knowledge and experience in physical and technical chemistry as well as in catalysis are desired. In addition to the technical qualification, a high level of commitment, independent and self-reliant work as well as fluent written and spoken English is expected. German language skills are an advantage.
Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
